Do I need an account?

You never need an account with us. Whether you need an account with a speech service depends on your device:

iPhone and Mac: No. With Apple's speech recognition and voices, iKK Voice works at no extra cost, with no account and no API key.
Android: Yes. You need an account and an API key with at least one cloud service.

What does iKK Voice cost?

iKK Voice is a one-time purchase in the App Store or on Google Play for about 30 CHF or 30 USD (depending on country and store) – no subscription, no account with us. One App Store purchase covers both iPhone and Mac. On iPhone and Mac there are no further costs afterwards. If you also use a cloud service with your own API key, that provider bills its usage directly to you.

Why isn't Apple's speech recognition available on Android?

Apple's speech recognition and voices are part of the iOS and macOS operating systems. Apple only makes them available on its own devices – Android apps cannot use them. On Android, a cloud service of your choice therefore takes care of recognising and reading out your speech.

Which service should I choose on Android?

OpenAI, ElevenLabs, Deepgram and Cartesia offer both speech recognition and voices – a single API key covers the whole app. Voiceitt specialises in hard-to-understand speech, but offers speech recognition only and currently supports English only. If you want to use “Listen and Suggest”, you need an OpenAI key anyway.

How do I get an API key?

Create an account with the provider of your choice and generate an API key there. Enter it in the app under Menu → API providers. Any costs are billed to you directly by the provider. The key is stored encrypted on your device.

The app doesn't hear me.

Allow access to the microphone, then reopen the app:

iPhone: Settings → iKK Voice – turn on Microphone and Speech Recognition.
Mac: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone – turn on iKK Voice and quit the app with ⌘Q.
Android: Settings → Apps → iKK Voice → Permissions → Microphone – choose “Allow”. Also check that an API key has been entered.

How do I withdraw my consent to a cloud service?

In the app under Menu → Impressum you can switch off consent for each service individually.

How do I delete my history?

In the history, tap Edit and delete entries, or choose Clear list. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data.
