Privacy policy
1. The essentials in brief
- iKK Voice has no user account with us, no ads, no tracking and no analytics tools.
- We run no servers of our own. We receive none of your recordings, texts or settings.
- Settings, history and API keys stay on your device.
- Recordings or texts are only sent to the speech service you choose yourself – and, for cloud services, only after your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- On iPhone and Mac you can use Apple's speech recognition and voices. On Android these are not available – there the app always works with a cloud service of your choice.

This policy follows the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
3. Data stored only on your device
- Settings such as mode, language, voice, microphone and audio filter.
- History of your spoken sentences and the AI suggestions.
- Personal details for “Listen and Suggest”, if you fill them in (e.g. “About me”, important words and names, additional instructions).
- API keys for cloud services – encrypted in the Keychain (iPhone/Mac) or with the Android Keystore (Android).
- Your consents to the individual cloud services.
This data does not leave your device except as described in sections 4 and 5. You can delete the history in the app; deleting the app removes all of this data. Depending on your device settings, settings and history may be included in your personal device backup (iCloud Backup, or Google backup on Android).
4. Microphone and speech recognition
The app needs access to the microphone to record your speech. Recording only starts when you trigger it. Recordings and played-back audio files are kept only temporarily in the app's temporary storage and are not retained permanently.
iPhone and Mac: Apple's speech recognition and voices
On iPhone and Mac you can use Apple's speech recognition and voices without an account and without an API key. Speech output takes place on the device. Speech recognition is provided by Apple and may – depending on your device and language – take place on the device or on Apple's servers. The operating system asks for your permission beforehand. Apple's privacy policy applies.
Android: always via a cloud service
Apple's speech recognition and voices are not available on Android. On Android, your recordings are therefore always processed by the cloud service you select and have consented to (section 5). Without such a service, the app cannot recognise or read out speech on Android.
5. Cloud services (only with your consent)
If you select a cloud service in the app, or a feature that requires such a service, iKK Voice asks for your consent before the first transmission, separately for each provider, and shows you which data will be transmitted. The data goes directly from your device to the provider – not via us. You use your own account with the provider, whose terms of use and privacy policy apply.
| Provider | Purpose | Data transmitted |
|---|---|---|
| ElevenLabs | Speech recognition and/or speech output | Voice recordings, text to be read aloud |
| OpenAI | Speech recognition, speech output, AI suggestions, translation | Voice recordings, texts; for suggestions also your details from “Listen and Suggest” |
| Deepgram | Speech recognition and/or speech output | Voice recordings, text to be read aloud |
| Cartesia | Speech recognition and/or speech output | Voice recordings, text to be read aloud |
| Voiceitt | Speech recognition | Voice recordings |
| Google Translate | Translation in “Listen and Translate” mode when no OpenAI key has been entered | Text to be translated |
The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and Art. 31 FADP). You can withdraw it at any time in the app under Menu → Impressum, separately for each service. Withdrawal takes effect for the future. On Android, the app cannot process speech without consent to at least one speech service.
Transfer abroad: The providers named above may process data outside Switzerland and the EU, in particular in the USA, where an equivalent level of data protection is not guaranteed in every case. The transfer is based on your explicit consent (Art. 17(1)(a) FADP, Art. 49(1)(a) GDPR) and on the providers' contractual safeguards.
Please do not transmit any content through the app that you would not want to entrust to a third-party provider, in particular no sensitive health data.
6. App Store and Google Play
When you download and update the app, Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) process data under their own privacy policies. From them we receive only aggregated statistics, such as download numbers, and – if you have allowed sharing in your device settings – anonymised crash reports.
7. No sharing, no selling
We do not sell any data and do not pass any data on to third parties. Since we receive none of your data, we cannot analyse it either.
8. This website
This website is hosted on GitHub Pages (GitHub Inc., USA). When you visit it, GitHub processes technically necessary data such as your IP address in order to deliver the page and ensure security (GitHub's privacy statement). The website uses no cookies, no external fonts and no tracking.
9. Your rights
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability, as well as the right to withdraw your consent. Since your data is held on your device or with the provider you have chosen, you can exercise most of these rights directly in the app or with the provider. If you have any questions, our contact address is happy to help.
You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority – in Switzerland with the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
10. Changes
We will update this policy when the app or the legal requirements change. The version published on this page at the time applies.
